Stan Bolton
Stan Bolton was a Kibworth Grammer School pupil who trained at
Loughborough Teachers College before becoming woodwork teacher back at
the Grammer
school.When
the school closed Stan went on to be head of design at Beauchamp
College in
Oadby.
Those of his pupils who are still around the club remember Stan's
favourite way of maintaining discipline involved introducing their
knuckles to a vice. Stan was a
wicket keeper and administrator at KCC for over 40 years, a man who as
Secretary had definate ideas on right and wrong, on how the club should
be run. He was also a
skilled negotiator, a man who could rapidly and quietly defuse tricky
situations.
Stan's love of woodwork came to the aid of the club on many ocassions,
not
least when he built the bar in the new pavilion. His interest in
carpentry continued in his
private life and he kept a
very well equipped workshop in his loft at home. His love of carpentry
and of KCC was matched by his love of Whisky and his stated
aim on retirement was to catalogue
every single malt made in Scotland. John Garratt, treasurer in the late
70's remembers that any trip to Stan's to countersign cheques
inevitably involved a tasting
session of some 'tipple' often taken from one of the secret alcoves
that Stan had constructed around his house so that bottle was always
close to hand.
