KIBWORTH CRICKET CLUB - 1857 Season

Leicester Advertiser 30 May:  During the last week a cricket club has been established at Kibworth, and promises to be a very good one by the numbers that have already joined it. They meet for practice in a field belonging to the Rev. M. Osborn, adjoining the vestry, and which is much more convenient than the one the old club used to meet in. In "Lj" on the 29th, it states:- "The Rev. M. Osborn, allows them to play in his field adjoining the village." [No   location of the old ground stated in either report.]

Leicester Journal & Midland Counties General Advertiser  4 Sep:      KCC v Rothwell. An exceedingly good match was played between these clubs on Monday last at Kibworth., who went in first and scored 105, by good and steady batting. Rothwell then went to the wicket and scored 78, making some exceedingly good hits from the bowling of Bromley. In the second innings Kibworth only scored 21. This revived the spirit of the Rothwell gentlemen and they went to the wicket full of confidence, but the fast bowling of H. Teear was too much for them and their wickets were lowered for 39 runs, leaving them in a minority by nine runs. The players then sat down to an excellent dinner at Mr. Austin’s Rose & Crown Inn, where a jovial hour was spent. K 105  & 21 , R 78 & 39 Team: Rev. A. Matthew, G. Teear, Bromley, Marriott, H.
