Leicester Mercury 1 Feb A
Cricketers Ball under the auspices of the Cricket Club took place in the
village hall on Wednesday. The
room was tastefully decorated and the floor covered with suitable canvas. There
were about ninety
persons. Dancing was splendidly kept up, to the strains of an efficient
quadrille band, until the small
hours of the morning.
Leicester Chronicle 30 Apr The
searching for a suitable ground for cricket has become an almost insuperable
difficulty. Most of the
few really good fields for cricket near to the village have been rendered unfit
for the purpose by the
quality of draining done during the winter, whilst the good grounds available
are too remote a distance
to be acceptable. At an adjourned meeting, held in the village hall on Saturday
evening, a few persons
interested in the game, decided to apply for the use of a field belonging to
the Grammar School,
and in the occupation of
Market Harborough Advertiser 31 May The KCC held a
meeting in the village hall on Monday week last, under the presidency of Mr. Cayzer. The committee had not been able to obtain
another field for play, so it was decided to engage the one used for several years past (although;'it has been considerably disturbed being drained - according the Northampton Mercury report of the same meeting) A committee
and officers were afterwards appointed.
Note. The
two reports above, in a space of 3 months, seem to contradict themselves. The
first stating a "new cricket ground," and the
second, "one used for several years past." ?
