Secretary's Report to the 1963 AGM
May I
quickly remind you of many things that you may remember
well. There has been talk of pleasant surroundings in which to
entertain our ladies after the match
and which might encourage more people to attend Tote meetings in the
winter. There has been talk of two Oak trees for two years or more,
except for the oaks, they
are no longer with us (if anyone happens to have a log of one of the
trees at home, I would like to fashion it for pavilion ornamentation or
for a trophy).
No great innovations were introduced during the past season except that
more Sunday matches were played and a loss was made on the bar takings.
Does God work
in a mysterious way? The outfield got gradually bigger, so did the
holes in the floor of the pavilion. At least two very young members B.
Hall and J. Bellamy made
their mark on 2nd XI cricket and the average age of members would seem
to be getting less, an excellent sign.
If hearsay is anything to go by, prospects from a playing point of view
for 1963 are excellent. To make the season a real success everyone
needs to throw just a little more
weight into the irksome duties associated with cricket matches, ground,
wicket and pavilion preparation and not least to serious practice
properly organised. You don't
want a sermon but sometimes a word spoken at the right time does so
much, not least a word of encouragement and thanks to anyone who is
trying to further the good
interests of the club.
