1967 AGM
The 1966 season may have been outstandingly noteworthy
for the Chandler circular which may not have resulted in the perfect
square solution
but at least the mumbo-jumbo and ritual connected with wicket
preparation may not now be quite such a mystery to so many people. Let
us hope the
good progress made in this direction last season will get off to a good
start and thrive during the coming season.
The scars on the field gradually healed with careful attention from
time to time and the drainage has certainly been tested this winter.
Ron will not
have to borrow a water pump and grovel in filth and cold water to
remove the huge expanse of top water which gathered so quickly in the
past. A
start has been made in filling in some of the hollows which made mowing
and fielding so difficult. There must be enough topsoil available to
make
all the upper part of the outfield really level.
A progress report on the new pavilion will no doubt be brought up for
discussion later in the evening. Here we must all look for real help
from Walter
Gregory, the only man now left to us who can bring this dream to a
successful climax. He will need all our help and encouragement and
sympathy to
make him feel that all the time and energy he will have to expend on
our behalf will be fully appreciated.
Links with the past may get fewer. Are we men enough to carry the torch
forward? A great challenge, as they say these days, but I'm sure we can
do it.
The playing record for 1966 is as follows;
1st XI P 20 W 5
Dr 4 L 10 Ab 1
