Secretary's Report to the
1969 AGM
You have just listened attentively to the Secretaries
report on last years meeting (the minutes took 1 and three quarter
hours to prepare
and write up i.e. about the total length of this meeting). I have just
- after too many years - realised that I have been making a rod for
my own back by making a too lengthy report. So to be brief and to the
point:
For what shall we remember 1968?
Firstly - a year of great
expectations and tremendous ideas with two of our enthusiastic members
somewhat chastened by the lack of real
support. Top rank and the century club, we could have hit the jackpot.
They at least tried and we would all like to salute them of their
efforts
on our behalf.
Secondly - as a result of the above the Tote now pays out £7 or
thereabouts. It must reach the £10 mark during the coming season.
Thirdly - Coffee evenings and rummage sales netted £100 - good
for the ladies - I nearly said "Up the ladies".
Fourthly - another season of hard work by the valiant few during the
week and by a few more on Saturday mornings. We can improve on
these arrangements this year.
Fifthly - the pavilion was started and is fast approaching completion.
There is much hard work ahead - financial and physical - good old
Walter - before we are home and dry. It will be real history in the
making to have our AGM at home.
Sixthly - we had the pleasure of christening the new part of the Lodge
hotel where we dined and wined the ladies.
Lastly - we played some cricket and here are the details;
