Cricket: Kibworth start their season on Sunday travelling to Telford to
take on St Georges CC in the National Club Championship.
The club s defence of their Everards Leicestershire Premier league
title has been delayed a week because of the bad weather but
expectations within the club are again high as they aim to win their
third premiership title inside four years.
Their first league match will now be against local rivals Billesdon on
Saturday, May 5. The scheduled fixture against another local team,
Lutterworth, has now been put back to September. With Phil Robinson
leaving the Kibworth after five successful years after having joined
Derbyshire County League side Quarnden, the club moved quickly to line
up Indian overseas player Amrish Kotecha as a replacement. The club are
also delighted to welcome Simon Renshaw to the ranks; Simon has spent
the last five years as a professional with Hampshire.
Steve Kirby returns to the club following a year out where he captured
80 wickets playing for Edenfield in the Ribblesdale League. Another
welcome return sees Steve Mathew return to the club after several
seasons with The Langtons.
The County Cup sees Kibworth host last year s winners Leicester Ivanhoe
in the tie of the round at Kibworth on Sunday, May 6. Things don t get
any easier when Kibworth visit Hinckley Town on Bank Holiday Monday,
May 7, in the Everards League Cup. Weather permitting, it will be a
mouth-watering start to the new season with plenty of top-class club
cricket for followers to watch.
