A rain delayed start led to the loss of 5 overs a side, and Kibworth elected to field. Broomleys' openers got off to a brisk start with Pepp (14) pushing for singles and Avtar (28) picking up boundaries. The momentum continued with Brotherhood (16) and Pullen (34 off 37 balls) at the crease but gradually Boswell's best spell of the season (one for 27 off 8 overs) and the usual control and guile from Mason (3-50) and Spiers exerted their effect. From 109 for 3, the visitors collapsed to 155 all out with Spiro the main benefactor (5 for 17).
Failing to use 6 of their overs, Kibworths reply could afford to be steadier, and helpfully the black skies appeared to have blown by. Captain Sutty's uncharacteristically restrained innings (he had just 6 of 21 when Nick was, as so often lately, dismissed by a brilliant catch for 15) grew into a wonderful knock of 61 off 72 balls, containing 5 fours and 3 sixes and he added 77 with Andy Smith before being caught behind off Jamie Hart's first ball. Hart's third accounted for Sundeep with the score still on 98, but the spectator's nail biting was uncalled for, as Pedro and Cobb (14*) steered us assuredly to victory, putting on 58 before 38 overs were complete. Andy's unbeaten 51 came in 86 balls and included 5 fours.
