Match Report

Not alot was anticipated out of this fixture when the fixtures were released at the start of the season. How wrong we were.

Kibworth won the toss and elected to bat in the first game of many between the two clubs on the new Fleckney Road ground.

After a good start that saw the dangerouse Dan Pedley dismissed by a great inswinging york by Ben Wade, Kevin Riely ever the thorn on gumleys side played his usual array of irregular shots and scored quickly without really giving a chance. After a tight opening spell from Wadeo and Millsey, Krause and The Skipper Joly got to work, Joly Had Rob elwood caught by Masic for just 6. In strode Tom Bale for the home side, following his heroics for the green and gold last year against clipston (where he just missed out on hid maiden century for gumley 97) a quiet anticipation fell over the ground. In ran Rick Krause in his first over and Bale played an upish cut towards point, It looked as though it was flying the the boundary for a certain four but out streatched a very long limb form Nathan Simpkin on the dive, All of a sudden the ground roared and cheered with delight at this supurb piece of fielding. What a catch Bale gone for just 4. Wickets fell stadily towards the end of the innings but with Riely still bashing away at the other end Kibworth were still scoring at around 10 an over. Matt Wilson came on to take the pace of the ball and it worked as Riely Smashed the ball down long on's throught. Joe hallam steadied himself and took a superb catch. Kibworth posted a score of 142 for 7 in thier 14 overs.

This was a really tough ask for the Gumley batsmen but with a very quick outfield and a short boundary there was optimisum in the Camp at half time.

The two opening batsmen strode out and ound the run rte tough but Joly Pickering managed two fours off Folleys 2nd over to keep the run rate up around 10 an over. In the next over Joly beautifully timed a flick off his legs and was caught low down by midwicket for 21. This brought Sam Smith to the crease. One of the first shots Sam hit flew straight back to the bol who misfielded and left Masic straned out side his crease. With the ecos of Tony Maasic's comments the week before

"that we wouldn't win an away game all season"

it looked like we would be heading to another astroturf defeat. In came the ever correct Rich Miller to try and set up a partnership with Smith, What we saw next was carnage as Sam an Rich Smeared the bowling to all parts with fours and sixs galore, Magical. This ended with the score on 131 with 3 overs left when Sam Smith was Yorked with his team on the verge of victory. Rich Krause managed to hit a couple through the leg side and helped Miller to a well deserved 50 and that was the match tied up.

The cheers in the changing room afterwards were heard as far away as whetstone.
