Match Report from Birmingham Mail

Brave Kidderminster Victoria bowed out of the Cockspur Cup National Clubs Knockout after losing their quarter-final by three runs to Leicestershire side Kibworth.

Kiddy appeared to be coasting to victory when Worcestershire's Will Gifford was caught on the boundary by Kibworth's Nick Ferrably which effectively altered the complexion of the game.

Derbyshire's Ferraby had already punished Kiddy with the bat by cracking an unbeaten 101 as the 2004 champions recovered from a sticky start.

Ferraby found plenty of support from his lower order after Kibworth had been reduced to 36 for four.

Tim Mason and Rich Jackson cut loose in the latter stages of the innings, both scoring 45, while Steve Renshaw supplied an unbeaten 43, taking Kibworth to a competitive 216 for six from their 45 overs.

Experienced Mark Mansell had earlier applied the brake by taking two for 21 off his nine overs, while skipper Jonathan Wright claimed two for 18 off five.

But the Kibworth batting was particularly harsh on Lincolnshire left-arm seamer Jonathan Miles, who went for an expensive 64 runs as the visitors threw the bat during the final stages of their innings.

After losing skipper Wright early in their reply, Kiddy were looking well set when Mansell and Gifford put on 146 for the second wicket in front of a bumper Chester Road crowd.

The partnership was finally broken when veteran Mansell was run out for 70, but Gifford continued the charge and took the total to 197 for two before holing out to Ferraby's fantastic diving catch for 94.

Kiddy never recovered from Gifford's departure and fell agonisingly short on 213 for seven following a middle-order collapse.
