Match Report from Liverpool Echo
Just six days after convincingly defeating Firwood Bootle in the Group Final of the Cockspur Cup, Northern failed in their bid to reach the last eight of the country’s most prestigious knock-out competition, losing to Leicestershire Premier League side, Kibworth, by seven wickets at Fleckney Road on Sunday.
Asked to bat first, Northern slumped to 21 for four and were rescued by Nick Woods whose innings of 64 from 111 balls enabled the Moor Park side to reach 156 for 9 from their 45 overs.
Woods was eventually bowled by 16-year-old Josh Cobb whose father, Russell, played for the county in the 1980s, and the young Leicestershire second team player then made 62 in his side’s canter to victory in 32 overs. Kibworth’s reply also featured a fine 62 by Sundeep Patel while the most successful visiting bowler was John Wildman with 2 for 47.
