Rain. The pre-occupation of Cricketers and the end of
many promising weekends. However sometimes it comes riding to the
rescue like John Wayne's Calvary troop when the Indians are threatening
to overun the cowboys after the baked beans have run out. Again the
skipper lost the toss. Tom Burton found this highly amusing as he has
barely lost a spin all Summer elsewhere so before the teams took the
park it was agreed he would call in future and The Bard would make the
decision. What a shame after hatching such a masterplan there is only
one league game to go. Somewhat foolishly the Skipper had boasted about the
strength of batting in the side this day, good job there was some
batting because the team really would have been in
diahorrea straits without it. The West Haddon lads appeared
to have brought some erratic bowling, one delivery might be miles wide
whilst the next would swing an absolute mile. Whatever you call it it
seemed too good for Kibworth. Adam Samuel was adjudged caught down the
leg side although the ball seemed to miss the bat and come straight off
the old glutius maximus, Tom Burton got one all wrong and was bowled
around his legs and Qasim was LBW with one that just didn't bounce.
Just like the reverse fixture Kibby were three down before the tea lady
was out of bed. Before the rain came Kibby had gone from 17 for 3 to
59 for 6 and rather than blowing the clouds away the Bard was
launching into a fully fledged rain dance in the corner of the
pavillion which probably cracked the concrete. John Bleby chased a wide
one, John Peat's first Kibworth game in 12 years didn't trouble the
scorers and Aadil tried to hasten his usual chocolate fest by tickling
one to the keeper. The rain, rarely heavy but as persistent as a
religious group knocking your door, brought the First Team game to a
halt shortly after an early tea which was the signal for the fat lady
to get warmed up for the bottom square too. 59 for 6? Good job the team had some batting, eh? |
