Match Report

Malcolm King and his Kibworth boys got home with 15 balls to spare to win this promotion clash. L&M skipper Carl Daniel won the toss and elected to bat.

The demons in the wicket had been quelled by groundsman Sparrow and the match strip was in a benign mood. Poor shot selection accounted for the first 6 wickets as L&M slumped to 63/6. Spinner Adil Ali claimed the wickets of Butler, Daniel intermediate, and Flecknor. Lenny having hit a straight six that smacked the screen tried to repeat the dose but was deceived in the flight and comprehensively castled. The omens didnt look good but Luke Chester who has spent most of the season either in casualty or at band practice came to the rescue with an elegant 67. Ably partnered by Nick Owens (25) they put on a healthy 79 for the 7th wicket. Owens who had been playing a sedentary role suddenly sprang into life with a quick single, their was an almighty twang around the ground as his hamstring gave way, followed by a shriek of pained agony.. Nick bravely carried on after a lengthy spell of treatment, only to be bowled the next ball he faced. Chester departed soon after, his efforts ensuring the total finished on a competitive 162.

Ali and Morgan both collecting 3 wickets apiece.

Following an extensive and well balanced tea served up by Judith Edwards play resumed.Daniel Minor was on as 12th man for Owens who was forced out of the action with his injury which also removed a potent threat from the bowling attack. Mitch was already celebrating second ball after the resumption when Patel offered up a simple chance to point. The catch was unsurprisingly grounded and it was Fleck who eventually struck bowling Patel 8 overs into the reply. Mitch bowled King who played on shortly after and it was game on. Youngsters Hurley and Ali who received a rapturous welcome when he came out to bat however had other ideas as they put on 66 for the third wicket. Hurley falling one short off a deserved 50 bowled by Patel. Ali continued to defy all efforts to remove him and was fortunate twice not to be run out when stranded well out of his ground. He finally was bowled by Coles off his pads for a hard grafted 42. Dave King 38* with an array of contrived shots saw the visitors home with 15 balls to spare to ensure victory.

With the top 5 teams rumoured to be promoted, next weeks game at home to Weekley suddenly becomes more than a dead rubber.
