Malc King won the toss and inserted visitors Loddington and Mawsley.L&M introduced 13 year olds Josh Plowright and Marty Prowse for their first taste of league cricket. Chairman Richard Baker made his long awaited comeback from his stick injury, Dave Keevil answering a 12th hour plea tore himself away from his partially tiled bathroom to answer the cause. With Bob The Book away on an excursion Theresa Hornigold learned the art of scoring.
Keevil and Nudger Butler both took the cautious approach early doors as the pitch appeared to be a road but neither wanted to risk playing an aggressive shot just in case the ball deviated slightly. The pair painfully compiled a stand worth 46 before Keevil waltzed down the track to Ali and was swiftly stumped by 13 year old Ben Mathew. Nudger was joined by Brian Penn who had spent the last hour suited and booted complaining about the poor run rate. Penn then dropped into the anchor role to urge Nudger into action. After 5 overs of mediocrity Penn burst into life smashing a half volley into the hands of the lurking Dunmore at square leg. Blade then made a composed 13 before Ali got one to turn at right angles to disturb his furniture.
Lenny Fleck whacked 18 of 5 balls before top edging into the gulley. Josh Plowright showed promise as he made it into double figures before King trapped him in front. Nudger finally parted company in the 35th over following another epic knock, the concentration levels are superb but the strike rate needs a little work. Ian Yates made an unbeaten 25 as the wickets tumbled at the other end. Callum Hornigold was focussed and in the zone when King pulled off a sensational one handed catch(which belied his years) off his own bowling. Freddie Ayears was castled without contributing and SJC made aseasons best 12 including a bat sticker earning straight six. Marty Prowse was caught going big off the last ball of the innings leaving L&M , 162 ALL OUT.
Lenny opened up with his usual crap first delivery which got the boundary treatment. He then tightened up and bowled some quality stuff. Both openers edged him firstly to Callum, then Penny then Keevil all of which were spilled. Lenny then downed one himself off SJC which made him feel a little better. He finally got his reward when specialist gully fielder Keevil clung onto one after a little juggle. Things went from bad to worse as Lenny pulled his groin chasing about in the outfield and was deemed unfit to bowl. Freddie Ayears stepped up to the plate and bowled with wheels his excellent inducker having the bats in trouble for no payout. SJC claimed Ali and Freddie took two wickets in his second spell in between beamers. Fred denied a 3rd victim by the tender hands of Keevil who spilled yet another straight forward catch.
Blade was given an over at the end to see if his bowling had improved during his lay off. King blasted him for a big 6 and with only a handful to win the result was inevitable. Blade to tidy his figures requested that the batsmen prod the ball back to him as young Prowse would not get a bowl. Blade then promptly bowls a wide before the home bat dropped into Nudger mode. Prowse got his bowl all 3 balls of it as Kibworth got home with 6 overs to spare.
