Match Report

On a glorious day for cricket Kibworth 4th XI were comfortably beaten by Grendon & Primms II at Fleckney Road. With drop outs in the higher sides skipper Malc King spent the week pulling out what little hair he had left in his efforts to get eleven men on the field, a task that was only completed about an hour before the start.

Having won the toss Malc decided to bat and the opening pair of Collins and Bleby (combined age of 99) set up shop against a youthful attack. A stand of 33 was broken when Dave's effort to pull a short ball was completed a full couple of seconds before the ball arrived and duely bowled him. With the skip joining his vice captain the average age of the partnership remained about the same but the run rate accelerated as Malc continued on from his century last week in similar aggressive mode. JB departed after failing to connect with a fairly straight ball but Adam Samuel stuck around as Kingy cruised past 50. When the captain finally departed Paul Illingworth and Gareth Morgan struck some lusty blows to raise the final total to 197.

In reply Grendon were always comfortably up with the rate as Kibby's youthful bowling attack leaked regular boundaries. Ben Underwood was the stand out bowler with 10 overs for 29 but wickets were hard to come by. Jon Butler claimed one scalp in his first senior over and the skip had the other opener well caught by keeper Jamie Thompson but the side dropped three catches including No. 3 Matt Virgin who proceeded to play a match winning hand of 63 not out.
