Match report

Stoughton 1st visited Kibworth on Saturday without their key bowlers, Alex Wyatt and Tom Wells. New signing, Ollie Freckingham in to the first team after having a hat-trick last Saturday with seconds and Jim Ardley back in to the first after stepped down as first team captain with his recent form. Stoughton skipper Dil Yahathugoda lost the toss and surprisingly asked to bat first on a flat wicket.

Stoughton openers James Wigley and Ben Orton started the innings off for the visitors. Ben looked confident from the off playing the ball with ease between fielders and smashed a few picturous boundaries, unfortunately he edged the ball in the air and was out for a magnificent well judged catch, and had a 49 runs opening partnership. James departed soon after Ben, and Chad Yates joined with Dil as both looked comfortable against Kibworth fast bowlers and picked valuable ones and twos. Kibworth off spinner Tim Mason took the ball as Dil was given out L.B.W for his second ball and managed to accumulate an only 22 runs partnership. In formed Jim jogged down to the crease with full confident and he didn't disappoint the team as had a 50 runs partnership with Chad. Too honest Jim walked back to the pavilion and didn't wait for the umpire's decision as all felt the ball hit the ground before it was taken at the slips. Mr Reliable Yates again continued to work the ball around guiding his team to a certain victory target despite wickets started to fall in the other end. Chad seemed to accelerate after his fifty and departed for 71 runs after an excellent inning and had a decent partnership with Paul Norwell, and at the end Paul had a quick blast to guide Stoughton for 188 runs for 9 wickets.

Stoughton started bowling with young, Ollie Freckingham and experienced, Paul Norwell. Oliver made their openers unplayeable with his shear pace despite it was a flat track. Kibworth openers hanged in the crease and were managing to build a decent partnership. Dil brought off spinner, John Samwell and removed the pair in consecutive overs with a good variation. At the middle of the inning Stephen Franklin picked up 2 wickets with his excellent line and length and supported by Paul with one wicket. Stoughton continued to rotate their bowlers and never gave any chance for Kibworth to get back in to the running chase. Ollie took 2 wickets in his second spell and John ended up taking 3 wickets as Kibworth managed to reach only 155 runs for 9 wickets. Stoughton showed a good unity and this was a superb team effort and hopefully Stoughton can continue their good form with their second home game this Saturday against Syston
