Lutterworth produced a superb team performance under pressure as they defeated Kibworth in the County cup semi-final on Sunday.
After winning the toss Lutterworth bowled and fielded brilliantly restricting their visitors to just 190 for 8 of 40 over's. The pick of the home bowlers were spin twins Nathan Welham (8-1-26-0) and Karl Smith (8-0-29-1) who used an uneven pitch to their advantage to strangle the Kibworth batsmen. Kibworth's top scorers were Andy Smith (47) and Charlie Morgan (36) but their innings never got going with some great death bowling and fielding by the home side.
Lutterworth lost an early wicket in their reply but soon got into the groove as Opener Oliver Pickering wouldn't let an experienced bowling attack settle, pulling anything short on his way to 56. Oliver Pickering was joined by Craig Wilson with the score in the balance at 74 for 3 but some positive batting and good running kept the home team on course for victory. Just as the home team were looking to celebrate a brilliant 50 by he was unluckily adjudged LBW on 49. This could have signaled a collapse as Lutterworth still needed 40 of the last 10 overs but some brilliant hitting from Ben Pickering (31 no), the highlight a huge six over mid wicket off Simon Renshaw (7-0-29-2), saw Lutterworth to victory with an over to spare
