Womens Internationals

THREE days of International T20 cricket start at Kibworth CC from Monday (June 1).

The club, the current Cockspur National Club Champions, are hosting three T20 cricket matches on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The games between Pakistan Ladies and an England Emerging Players team are designed to provide an ideal warm up to the forthcoming Womens T20 World Cup.

In addition to the games themselves (which begin at 2pm each day) the teams will provide coaching to young and aspiring girl cricketers from local schools and club sides.

Nicky Shaw, the Leicestershire star of the recent World Cup Finals in

Australia, played her junior cricket at Earl Shilton and said: "I think

it's brilliant that the ECB are helping out Pakistan with some warm-up

matches against our Academy side.

"There is some real strength in our academy squad and it's a great opportunity for them to play against an international side like Pakistan.

"It will give them relevant match experience for when they make the step up to the full international side.

"It's also fantastic to see the matches being played at Kibworth - just

round the corner from me!

"Women's and girls' cricket in the area is really picking up as a result of the work we do with Chance to Shine and the World Cup win, which is great to see."

Entrance to the games is free and refreshments will be available from

midday onwards.

Kibworth Chairman Steve Ellwood said: "We are delighted to have been given this chance to stage International Cricket at Kibworth.

"We have already had a number of high profile games at our new ground, both with our senior side in the National Knockout and with the finals of junior age group and schools cricket.

"By happy coincidence we also hosted the Leicestershire final of the Cockspur Club T20 on bank holiday Monday and a very young KCC side won a nail-biting final against Leicester Ivanhoe.

"However, the forthcoming series will also show two other sides of the Kibworth Club: a massive commitment to junior coaching and a great network of volunteers happy to help out when needed.

"On Tuesday we will provide the chance for youngsters to receive guidance from the best women cricketers in the UK and Pakistan and if anyone wants to come along to the session, which starts at 12 noon, they need to pre-register their interest with the club.

"On Tuesday night one of our club members Jasmine Ali will be cooking a traditional Pakistani meal for our visitors and throughout the three days we will have the clubhouse open for all those who want to come along and watch.

"We have been told that members of the victorious 2009 World Cup team will also be making an appearance around the matches so it seems an opportunity too good to miss.

U15 County Championship Finals

The KentUnder 15 boys travelled to Market Harborough, Leicestershire on Sunday 23 August to contest the U15 County Championship Finals. Unfortunately weather played a part in the overall result, washing out the final game against the eventual winners, Wales, on the final day.

The first game on the Monday was played at Langtons CC against Nottinghamshire.  Kent lost the toss, which became a featutre of the festival, and were inserted.  After a very solid second wicket partnership of 92 wickets began to fall regularly.  Kent finally ended up on 225 all out from 57 overs.  In reply, Notts also got off to a flyer and looked totally in control at 79/1.  However, scoreboard pressure and the economical spinners bowling overs quickly contributed to a steady fall of wickets (Coldman 19-5-42-4; Robinson 19-4-53-4).  Notts seemed reluctant to chase the par score, despite the reasonable run rate.  Their innings eventually closed on 179/8 from 53 overs.  Amazingly, the points split was 10 each.

The competition progressed with a game against Lancashire on the main pitch at the stunning facility of Kibworth CC.  After loosing the important toss with the threat of rain later in the day, Lancashire seized the initiative with several early wickets, their attack being well led by Jump 8-5-12-4 and assisted by Williams 6-1-20-4.  Despite the patience of Charlie Speller, who was last man out on 30 from 95 balls in 111 minutes, Kent slumped to their lowest score for over eight years, 76 all out from 34.1 overs, just after lunch.  The Lancashire reply was direct and they ended up knocking off the runs without loss in 18 overs.  The severity of defeat meant that, barring a miracle, Kent would not be retaining their U15 National Championship title.

The final game against Wales once again saw Kent loose the toss on a rain soaked morning.  After a delayed start the players were on and off.  Kent stuttered to 98/6, loosing regular wickets along the way.  The game was finally abandoned as a draw after tea when it was apparent there would be no play possible for the rest of the day.

The weather therefore had the final say in deciding this years U15 County Championship - gifting the trophy to Wales on the strength of their day one win against Lancashire.  The remaining places were all close, with Lancashire finishing runners up, Notts in third and Kent in fourth.  Although this overall outcome is creditable it did not do the team justice for what was a very good season, beating some excellent teams along the way and only loosing to a decent Surrey team in a game we should have won.
