Thorpe 3 XI continued their recent run of form with a close run victory over a team placed 2 in the league. Having lost the toss, Thorpe were put in to bat by the home team on a hot but cloudy day. Early on runs were difficult to come by on a wicket offering plenty of assistance to the bowlers and Thorpe lost the early wicket of M. Hickman (4), this bought the inform J. Kendall (74) into bat and together with R. Randall (40) shared a 81 run partnership before Randall was caught, Kendall continued to bat well with the middle order taking advantage of the quick outfield, G. Bush (13) and A. Sibun (29) as Thorpe edged towards 200. G. Exton (17) and J. Kemp (19) ensured maximum batting points with G. Knight (2), A. Atkins (6) and M. Foldys (5*) all helping Thorpe to 239 all out on the last ball of the innings.
Thorpe knew they would have to bowl and field well against a strong Kibworth's batting line up and openers A. Atkins and N. Lane bowled well to restrict the batsmen to 26 off the 1 8 over's with N. Lane making the first breakthrough. Thorpe continued to bowl well and at drinks the home side were 87 for 3 wickets. Bowlers G. Exton, M. Hickman and M. Foldys continued to apply pressure as Kibworth's batsmen started to attack setting up an exciting end to the game, as Kibworth pushed for victory good fielding by Thorpe led to two run-outs, J. Kemp bought on to bowl on at the death took a wicket with his 1 ball leaving Kibworth needing 10 to win off the last over, Kibworth scored 7 off the first 5 balls, but as they pushed for victory excellent fielding by Kendall and Kemp took the final wicket and maximum points for Thorpe.
All in all a good batting, bowling and fielding performance from a Thorpe team improving every week, looking to continue this form next week against Shepshed Town who currently lie 11 in the league.
