Langtons first team's rollercoaster season ended with a suitably thrilling
last-ball tie at home to Kibworth seconds. Batting first, Langtons' batsmen took
full advantage of a superb track and short boundary to post an imposing 268-7
from their 45 overs. In-form Mayur Rao hit the side's first and only league
century of the season with an irresistible 130, supported by a run-a-ball 56
from captain Jamie Marchant, 22 from Prem Prajapati and 15 not out from veteran
gloveman Mark Ward.
Despite a first over strike, Kibworth appeared to be
cruising to victory as the Patel brothers shared a massive second wicket
partnership to bring the score to 232-1 from 38 overs. However, then began an
extraordinary comeback as a succession of Kibworth batsmen were dismissed
attempting keep up with the seven an over required rate, Prajapati to the fore
with figures of 13-0-78-6. The visitors required only four to win from the final
over, delivered by Marchant, whose nagging seam conceded only two singles and a
wide from the first five deliveries. The last ball, a straight yorker, was
driven back to the bowler who removed the bails to effect a run out and conclude
the Kibworth innings on 268-9, a rousing tie to conclude a satisfactory first
season back in County League division one for the villagers
