LANGTONS first team were restricted to a draw in their Leicestershire League division one derby on Saturday at Kibworth.
In a match dominated by spin on a worn wicket, the toss would prove vital. The hosts won it and chose to bat.
Langtons openers Lee Linnett (11-1-36-1) and Prem Prajapati (17-7-40-1) bowled commendably tight spells in unhelpful conditions to restrict the Kibworth second string. However they took advantage of wickets in hand to assault the villagers' spinners late on. Dan Stevenson (9-0-51-3) and John Samwell (6-0-49-3) both found success but it was at a cost as the hosts posted a challenging 203 for 8 from their 45 overs.
In reply, openers Fran Finnemore (33) and Charlie Standley (22) got Langtons off to a brisk start, continued by skipper Jamie Marchant (25).
The introduction of spin was the turning point and Langtons' middle order crumbled as four wickets were lost for as many runs. Prajapati (34) and Linnett (13) launched a fightback which put victory back in sight but their dismissals made survival the only option and the final wicket pair of Samwell and 'keeper Andy Phillips blocked out for three overs to 166 for 9 to secure the draw. A miserly spell of 15-8-13-3 from Kibworth's Russell Spiers was ultimately the difference between the two sides.
