Simmo and Son Sink Sitters

Kibworth Legends V Old Wyvernians
Kibworth lost by six wickets

Another Sunday, another beating. Ian Simpson took up the rotating captaincy yesterday and maintained the 100% start to the season, played three lost three.

Despite results is the team improving? Well, with such an interchangeable line up it's difficult to draw comparisons on a week by week basis but once again the home batting didn't take advantage of their own track and significantly underscored. Badri took 16 balls to score 2 runs; Joel Juvvanapodi took 18 to score 1. It wasn't thrilling stoke play, more an advert for the sedative market.

Impressionable Henry Simpson saw which way it was going and obviously decided to have a little slice of that particular pie. His 27 at roughly a run an over was laudable in its application but somewhat short of the sort of magic to lure paying punters from the bar and onto the balcony to watch the action.

To take the Legends up to their final 150 required some Simmo Snr biffage which he duly provided on a run a ball basis and some unorthodox batting from Elliot Lodge who presumably had come to the wicket with a 9 iron instead of a sturdy piece of willow. In the week the world waved a sad farewell to Seve it was hardly a fitting tribute.

At tea a Kibworth win seemed about as likely as a finding Osama Bin Laden in a mansion near a army base, er hang on a moment. A Kibby win was as likely as finding a recognizable pop band to represent the at Eurovision next week…. An Italian Prime Minister in the dock? Famous people using the courts to cover up their indiscretions? In any event it was unlikely. Unfortunately so it proved.

The Bard's Indian Summer behind the stumps snared him another victim and only three byes conceded, two of which he bitterly complained would have been wides on a Saturday. In any event its unlikely Tommo is watching his back just yet. Unfortunately it needed more than a fat lad's inane patter behind the poles to shift two former Premier League cricketers who were guesting for the visitors to gain batting practice.

The home bowlers were rotated, all except the skipper who mainly stationed himself at slip and maintained his rosy glow after his batting effort. Perhaps he wished he had stayed there after dropping a dolly at square leg which prompted his pint size prodigy at mid on to do something similar. To those who didn't already know it things were going Pete Tonge at a great rate of knots. Jamie Thompson already knew this however and four consecutive Chinese cuts off his bowling that missed leg stump by a whisker did little to lighten his mood.

The end came shortly before 7 o clock and with 11 overs still to be bowled. The visitors were undoubtedly the better side and deserved their victory, however turning up with a couple of big guns when water pistols would have done the trick might have turned the match from something competitive into something more one sided than perhaps it could have been.
