Kibworth battled to a nail-biting victory over hosts Market Harborough in the final of the Everards Challenge Cup on Sunday. Russell Spiers clinched a three-wicket win with three balls to spare when he crashed a straight drive to the boundary to overhaul the home sides target of 163. On a slow pitch Kevin Innes hit 55 after Harborough were put in but Harvey Uppal (29) and Simon Renshaw (24 not out) were the only other Harborough batsmen to reach 20 in the face of accurate bowling from Spiers (3-29) and Colin Ackermann (2-28.).
Ackermann and Andy Smith fell cheaply as Kibworth slipped to 7-2 in reply but Matt Craven hit 43, Ram Ghuman 28 and Charles Page-Morris 38. The required run-rate rose to over a run a ball but importantly Kibworth always had wickets in hand. A late three-wicket burst by Innes meant Kibworth were 154-7 with two overs remaining and five were still needed off the final over before Spiers settled the issue.
