Match Report

The 4th team finally got their season up and running on Saturday and made up for lost time with a great victory against one of the pre-season promotion favourites Countesthorpe at Fleckney Rd.
Featuring a largely inexperienced bowling attack the skipper invited Countesthorpe to bat first on a wicket which had evidence of damp at one end due to a covers “malfunction”.
A benefit of the widespread player unavailability is the opportunity granted to others and Saturday saw a debut for junior prospect Harrison Norton who took the new ball with a promoted from first change, Chris Carson.
Both bowlers bowled fine spells, and withstood the barrage of some big hitting during the innings and finished with a well deserved 3 wickets each.
The inexperienced seam attack were backed up by the unlikely spin pairing of Father and Son Pounds. Pounds Senior (on his birthday), bowled tightly and nipped a couple of wickets….in truth it could have been more but for some dubious catching……and was superbly backed up from the other end by son Sam who finished with great figures of 2-22.
Countesthorpe were dismissed for 172 in the 44th over, a disappointment to KCC as at one point the visitors were in deep trouble at 89-7…..however, some savage hitting by the lower order swung the momentum their way going into tea.
The mood of the home team was not helped by the early dismissals of young Joel and Vice Captain Ellwood to leave us tottering on 5-2. However, a fine rebuilding job was then done by Joel Senior and the debutant Bob Pritchard who added 90 runs for the 3rd wicket to get us back in the game with Pritchard contributing 43, Joel 35 before a steady 20 from Blunt maintained the momentum.
Kibworth then decisively grabbed the initiative during a 60 run partnership between the skipper and Dave Pounds which featured some aggressive running to put pressure on the opposition fielders. The skipper departed with just 12 needed for victory leaving Sam Pounds to join his dad in safely seeing us over the finishing line with 4 overs to spare.
A great all round team effort and a fantastic game played in excellent spirtit and which swung one day then the other. A maximum points haul was a great return given the pre match selection trials and tribulations and one that should give us great confidence that we can have a good season.
